Latin philologist · historian of religious encounter in medieval and early modern Eurasia
My research combines textual editing, source criticism, and comparative historical analysis to examine how religious traditions encountered, translated, and adapted to each other across Eurasia. I edit Latin texts from the Franciscan missions to the Mongol Empire and the Jesuit missions in East Asia, and I write Latin readers with religious texts for seminarians.
Current work focuses on:
- The Franciscan missions to the Mongol Empire (Carpini, Benedictus Polonus, C. de Bridia)
- The Jesuit correspondence from China and Southeast Asia
- The intellectual and institutional continuity between medieval and early modern missionary strategies
I hold a Ph.D. in Medieval History and have taught in East Asia for two decades. This site documents my ongoing work on the Latin texts that bridge medieval Europe and Asia.
